Fernanda Veron is an Argentinian artist based in Rome. Born in 1978, at the age of 7 she came to Italy with her family. After completing her degree in Master in Fine Arts at the Art Institute in Gorizia, she moved to Rome to study Scenography. In 2004 she is invited to the Festival of Photography of Almansa (Spain), where she displays her early works of Visual Art. Her first exhibition is focused on the photographic picture as the result of mixing painting and digital photography. Later that year she holds a series of meetings at the School of Comics in Rome on New Softwares and their Application to Digital Photography. In 2006 she took part in an art event organized by the Experimental Center of Photography of Rome, presenting a work on Memory Landscapes: a photographic recall of the places she used to live in during her childhood. The same year, she works on a project exploring the photographic narration together with the writer Alessio Romano, for the 2nd edition of Freeshout Festival, an installation to be set along the open spaces of a former slaughterhouse in Prato. Four years later the same project will be further developed and presented at the Festival of Literature in Montesilvano. In 2006 she is invited to join the 5th edition of the International Festival of Photography of Rome with a solo exhibition curated by Augusto Pieroni (contemporary art critic). In 2007 Pieroni organized CF3, the 3rd edition of the Festival of Visual Arts in Puglia, to which Fernanda Veron presented a photo series and, for the first time, a video work. Two years later she is invited again to the 8th edition of the International Festival of Photography of Rome, curated by photographer Marco Delogu, where she displays a series of musical pictures on the theme of ”Joy” . In 2009 she is invited by curator Giovanni Cervi to the Festival of European Photography in Reggio Emilia to exhibit the project Whaleless (Ketosproject 2.1), which is also presented one year later in the Civic Aquarium in Milan. Between 2008 and 2009 Fernanda Veron is involved in several collective exhibitions and produced a solo photo-video installation titled The Halls of Los in the Roman gallery Dora Diamanti Artecontemporanea, curated by Micol di Veroli, art critic and author of the book “Beyond any Limits, Chronicles from the Bizarre World of Contemporary Art 2010”. The same year she exhibits the video installation at Macro Future, la Pelanda, in Rome and in Viterbo at the art event “La Testa tra le Nuvole – tra Acqua e Cielo” (Head in the Clouds – between Water and Heavens), curated by the art critic Marcello Carriero, who moderated a meeting between Fernanda Veron and the public and students of the University of Viterbo. The Halls of Los is a dreamlike parable on the circular time: the Buddhist “Ku”, representing the circle as the symbol of vacuum or, as Fernanda Veron depicts it, through the game of hopscotch, the Spanish “rayuela”. In the video, the suspended time is described by the metaphorical movements of her hands. Critical reviews agree on the substantial surreal and magical roots of her work, fully recalled in the landscapes of Argentina ‘70 (2006) and Ring of Fire (2009). Her later works Travelling the Moebius Band (2008), Nigredo I/R_9 (2009) and Venus (2010) are permeated by animism and esotericism, while the visual installation MantraBox_The Magic Lantern of Mind is otherwise inspired by oriental philosophy and mysticism. The project installation is realized thanks to the support of C.I.A.C. International Centre for Contemporary Art based in the castle of Genazzano (RM). In 2010 the project The Noospheric Man is presented at the Festival of Creativity 2010 in Florence and at the Centrale Montemartini (Museums Capitolinis of Rome). Recently Fernanda Veron has joined the young artists team (Claudio Abate, Giovanni Albanese, Piero Pizzi Cannella, Alfredo Pirri, Lucilla Catania, Carlo Lorenzetti, Teodisio Magnoni) choosen by Mara Coccia Gallery to contribute to a permanent art exhibition to be mounted in the suites of the “First Hotel of Rome”. Her current exhibitions are A Dream of the Unknown at the gallery Overphoto in Napoli.
